How To Use Our Tinder Discs

Hellfire Tinder Discs are the flat version of our tinder tabs — same reliability, flat package that works better with a ferro rod than the tabs and gives a much larger flame due to the surface area being burnt. Six discs in a pocket-sized tin that fits anywhere: your EDC pouch, a go-bag, a glovebox, or a jacket pocket.

STEP 1: PREP THE DISC

Pull a disc out of the tin. Unlike the tabs you don't need to fluff them just tear it a little and it will fray enough to catch a spark.

STEP 2: LIGHT IT

A lighter is the quickest way to get a disc going. Hold the flame to the frayed edge for a few seconds until it catches.

A ferro rod works quite well too — scrape sparks directly onto the disc. It may take a few more strikes than a tab since the surface is denser, but it will catch.

The spark wheel also works well, just hold it close to the frayed edge and give it a few good spins.

STEP 3: BUILD YOUR FIRE

Each disc burns hot and long. Stack your kindling around it and let the disc do the work. Don't smother it — give it air and it'll give you fire. Start with small kindling, and work your way up to large logs and sustaining fuel. With 5 minutes of burn time you should have plenty of time to establish fire.

WHEN TO USE DISCS VS TABS

Tabs are your workhorse — 50 in a bag, light and packable, perfect for regular use. Discs are your backup and your EDC option. Throw a tin in your glovebox and forget about it until you need it. They take up almost no space and they're always ready.
